Mastering AP English

It's been a LONG time since I got ready for college, but apparently AP tests are all the rage.  According to the vendor I'm going to talk about here, Cerebellum, roughly 3 million AP exams are taken every year!  I can see how testing out of English 100 would be a benefit when heading into college.  English 100 was pretty boring.

I received a complimentary copy of the DVD Light Speed Writing from Cerebellum Corporation in order to do this review for you as part of the TOS homeschool crew.  Let's mix things up a little this time... if you would like to see the reviews of my fellow crew-mates, go here.

Cerebellum Corporation offers a variety of products for the classroom or the homeschool.  They have developed a site, www.sdlearn.com, where you can view all the products suitable for a homeschool.  Their total list of homeschool applicable products can be found here.

But the product I'm going to tell you about today is called, "Light Speed Writing."  This is a DVD with companion workbook/viewing guide.  Since our guys are 11 and 13, we're light-years away from AP English tests...ok maybe not light years.  BUT some days it seems like light years.  I enjoyed reviewing this product for myself and plan to use it with the boys in the years to come.

The video itself is only 52 minutes long.  The blurb on the back of the DVD case claims that Light Speed Writing will break down 30 essential topics of each subject into 30 minutes.  The videography is professional and as entertaining as AP English can be.  The accompanying viewing guide with worksheets is really clean and professional.

If I were going to introduce this to our children for preparation for an AP English test, I would ahve them watch and work through the workbook several times over the course of a few months before the test.  I may even have the boys use it their junior or senior year so that they can improve their general English and composition skills and knowledge.

If you have AP tests in your future, check out the light-speed line of preparation DVDs.  They are priced well, regularly priced at $14.98, Light Speed Writing is currently on sale for $11.24.  And they are a really well-produced product.

This is my last review for the 2009/2010 TOS Homeschool Crew.  Thankfully, I have been asked to stay on for the 2010/2011 crew.  I'm excited for what the new year will bring.  I hope you stay with me for more reviews, rants and raves on my blog.
