Knitting Through the Holidays

My favorite Christmas present is always my stocking.  I get the same thing in my stocking every year...yarn.  The boys and the Big Dog go to the craft store, stand in the yarn aisle and pick out two skeins each.  All six of the skeins are different.

So I always spend Christmas afternoon petting and squeezing my new yarn and looking through the One-Skein Wonders book to find projects for my new yarn.  Many times, I'll look at a skein of yarn and know what it's supposed to be.  That's exactly what happened with the skein of chunky blue and white flecked yarn the Big Dog gave me.  I knitted this scarf on Christmas day and finished it before we went to bed.

This is called the Filippi Scarf.  You'd be surprised how easy it is to add those cute little ruffles on the end.

On New Year's Eve I made this bag out of the Patons Wool that T-bone picked.  I threw it into the washer before we went to bed and had a new bag to take to my sister's for pork and sauerkraut the next day.

With some of the too cute Sugar 'n' Cream cotton from my stocking I made an adorable pair of baby booties, but I gave them away before I got to take a picture.

And I combined two chunky skeins to make a pair of slipper socks.  I still have a bit of one skein left.

So, I'm down to two skeins.  Both are feltable wool.  I already have definite plans for one of those skeins and tentative plans for the other.  I think it's time for that Easter basket full of yarn!  And then my birthday present, which is yarn.  Don't get me wrong.  I've got tubs of yarn.  My BFF blessed me by cleaning out her stash and passing it on to me.  I'm never in need of yarn.  But, oh it's so much fun to pet the new skeins!

I did use some "stash" yarn to make one of the scarves I saw in the one-skein book.  I liked the pattern and immediately thought of some chunky yarn in one of the tubs, so during the week between Christmas and New Year's I grabbed that and made a fun new scarf from stashed yarn.

Yeah, I guess there's no point to this post except to show you what I've been doing and share my passion for knit and crochet.  I'm sure I'll have more to tell you about that in the future :)

Time for New Tea Towels

If you know me or have read this blog very often you know I enjoy knitting and crocheting.  Well, I realized recently that our tea towels are looking pretty scary.  So, I whipped out my favorite pattern  (the Dorothea Dish Cloth from Lion Brand) and made two new "dish cloths" or tea towels over the weekend.  I found this pattern on Lion Brand's website a little over a year ago.  Ever since then I've never bought new teatowels.  These are absorbant and sturdy.  And, frankly, I think they're pretty!

I've often talked with other women about how nice it would be to have another bridal shower after several years of marriage.  It's so nice when you're first married and everything in your kitchen and linen closet matches.  Well, being able to make my own tea towels and dish cloths is kind of like giving myself a mini-shower.  Now we get to dry dishes and wipe up spills in style!
